Poor people of color are locked in an insurgency against police everywhere. From Bangkok to Baghdad, poor people are, and will always be, the enemies of the police. In Los Angeles, some say the biggest gang of criminals, thugs and drug dealers is the notorious LAPD. TheStateOf respects the difficult job police do, but also feels strongly that America’s police forces are infested with racist, crooked cops.
Since blacks moved westward in the 1920s in search of good-paying jobs, they have been set upon by the LAPD. Over the weekend, a 13-year old black youth was shot 10 times by an LAPD officer after a 3-minute chase at 4:00am. The youth had apparently been riding in a stolen vehicle. He was carrying no weapons. However, reports state that the youth backed the stolen car into the police vehicle, causing moderate damage.
Two Questions:
1. What is a 13-year old doing out at 4am? I don’t want to hear anything from his “Momma” about how she “loved her baby.”
2. Why would the police shoot an unarmed child?
