I loved this magazine! It ceased operations two years ago when it’s holding company Vanguarde Media went bankrupt. (Vanguarde Media also operated Code. Perhaps the greatest Black Men’s magazine ever!) Some have called it the Black Vanity Fair. It was a great magazine because it featured politics, business, and fashion. The articles were in depth and waaaaay more informative than Ebony or Jet. Savoy Professional is still being published about four times a year. Savoy will be published 10 times a year.
The issue comes out next week with Barak and Michelle Obama on the cover and will feature articles on the first black artist to paint a President (Bill Clinton) and African-Americans traveling in London. Apparently, there will also be some ill-timed articles on Michael Jackson in “Portraits of Power” and an article on Bill Cosby commenting on negative female stereotypes.
The State Of . . . wishes Savoy success in its relaunch.
