Europe’s Chickens Coming Home to Roost?

In 1963, Malcolm X was famously criticized for likening the assasination of John F. Kennedy to the chickens coming home to roost. The thrust of the statement, of course, is that we cannot escape the consequences of our actions. For centuries, Europeans thrashed what is now called the “Middle East.” Egypt, Sudan, Iran, Algeria, Morocco, Algiers, Lebanon, Tunisia, Chad, Libya and other countries in the region, at one time or another, were colonized by European countries. The natural resources were abducted, the people subjugated and divided, etc.

Conservative commentators, one of whom is linked below, note that Europe is undergoing two profound changes. The first is the decline of practiced Christianity, particularly Catholicism. The second is a demographic decline among white Europeans. There are only two-thirds the number of children born necessary to sustain the population. That drop in population has been made up mostly by the immigration of Muslims from the Middle East. Some Europeans are trying to figure out how to integrate the Muslim population. The Muslim populations, however, are generally not integrated into the host societies.

Right Wing Americans and Europeans are sounding the alarm bells about the influx and influence of Muslims. To me, that’s kind of funny. After centuries of exploiting Muslims, Europeans allowed immigration so that Muslims can do the jobs that Europeans don’t want to do: maids, cooks, gardeners, etc. Then, when the sh-t hits the fan, everyone in Europe freaks out. Those dang chickens…
