Today President Bush changed his position on what to do with those responsible for leaking the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame. Bush said that, “[i]f anyone committed a crime, they will no longer work for my administration.” However, for sometime now the administration’s stance was that anyone involved in this scandal would be dismissed.
The State of . . . The Leak. I think this is clear to anyone paying attention. Rove and Libby were clearly involved in leaking Plame’s identity. Now the administration wants to keep from dismissing them by changing their story and raising the bar on what is a dismissable offense.
With this change, what are we to make of the administration’s actions? They are making it hard for people to give them the benefit of the doubt. In effect, their attempt to discredit Wilson has only made them seem less credible.
