Leak Update: There’s A Memo!

A memo has surfaced that shows that Valerie Plame’s identity was considered secret. A classified State Department memo was written on June 10, 2003, by an analyst in the Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research. The memo was given to Colin Powell on a trip to Africa aboard Air Force One. According to The Wall Street Journal, the memo underscored that Plame’s identity was secret and should have been treated as such. The paragraph discussing Plame was marked with an “S” for secret. This should have been clear to all but morons that you shouldn’t go blabbing to people, even to confirm, confidential information.

Rove has testified that he learned of Plame from Novak before telling the confidential information to Time reporter Matthew Cooper. He also testifies that the first time he saw the memo was when it was showed to him by the prosecutors.

The State Of . . . The Leak Grows! Despite the picture above, Rove may not have been the originating source of the leak. However, he further spread confidential information that the administration should have reasonably known was secret. Since Rove has testified that he learned the name from Novak, where did Novak hear it from? All indications point to Novak having cooperated with the prosecutors on this. Did he tell them where he got the information? It seems clear he is not protecting a confidential source as he is not in jail. Why isn’t this investigation over with? My head hurts!
