Darfur’s Children Draw Atrocities

Human Rights Watch workers gave crayons to child refugees in Sudan earlier this year. While their parents were being interviewed, the children drew the carnage that they witnessed in their tribes and homeland. The children drew attack helicopters, MiG attack aircraft, armed personnel carriers, and men on camels armed with automatic weapons. Many of the drawings may be seen at New York University’s Edgar Bronfam Center through Labor Day.

We continue to ignore The State Of . . . Darfur. On NPR earlier this morning, a correspondent mentioned that these drawings were important evidence as the atrocities in Darfur had not been captured on film. However, I do not recall the Holocaust, long rumored about in Europe during World War II, being videotaped. Is video what is needed before these people get help? It should not be.
