Pentagon to Send More Troops to Iraq

Flying in the face of the Pentagon’s claim that it will reduce troop levels in 2006, the Pentagon announced that it will in fact increase troop levels in the short-term.

“Lawrence Di Rita, spokesman for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, noted Monday that troop levels were raised last January during Iraq’s first elections, and then returned to the current level of about 138,000 several weeks later.”

<!– –>TheStateOf…Iraq. The Iraqi “government,” including Oil Minister Ahmad Chalabi, is supposed to be finalizing it’s draft “constitution” on August 15th, and a final version in October. Who has ever heard of drafting a constititution under a deadline? How much sense does that make? To me, it’s amazing to watch the American media go along with this facade of legitimacy. Jeffersonian democracy in Iraq–yeah right!!
