Supreme Court Stays Prisoner’s Abortion

“The Supreme Court is temporarily blocking an order that would require Missouri prison officials to take an inmate to get an abortion. A federal judge had said the state would be violating the inmate’s rights unless it drove her to get the abortion. He ordered the state to do so, even though the state had argued it would violate a state law banning the spending of tax dollars to facilitate an abortion.”

Apparently, Justice Thomas acted alone in issuing the temporary stay.

TheStateOf…Abortion for Prisoners. Rich and I may disagree on this one. Should tax dollars be used to facilitate abortions? Has Justice Thomas overstepped his bounds? And do the privacy rights asserted in Roe extend to prisoners, who have already been denied certain freedoms? I definitely don’t think public tax dollars should be used to fund abortions under any circumstances. If she wants to pay for it herself, it may be another story.
