“I think because nobody challenged the assumptions. I would have loved to have had a chance to ask people like that, `what possible proof do you have of that? What possible evidence? What would make you say such a thing, that the president of the United States would simply let black Americans suffer in New Orleans because they’re black Americans?’ It’s an outrageous comment. And it was outrageous that more people didn’t say it was an outrageous comment. I think people have an obligation and certainly the press has an obligation when something like that is said to examine it. This is a president who has a strong record about minority education.”
TheStateOf…Condi. Even though I disagree with her Iraq policy, and I question her unyielding loyalty to President Bush, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Secretary Rice because of what she’s accomplished and the way she has promoted minorities within the State Department. I know she won’t, but I wish she’d run for President. I think it’s time for a female (or at least non-white male) President.
