Miers Withdraws Nomination!

Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination today saying that it presented a burden to the White House. Although many Republican Senators have been unwilling to give their support to Miers, White House Chief of Staff Scott McClellan dismissed the notion that Senators had been reluctant to support Miers. Her letter is here. Judge her writing style for yourself.

The spin is that she is withdrawing her nomination because releasing her White House papers would impinge on executive privilege. This would prevent the current President and future Presidents from obtaining candid advice. Her withdrawal, apparently, has nothing at all to do with her qualifications or lack there of.

Poor Sandy D has to remain on the bench just a little while longer.

Now, who’s next?
