Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will release his findings on his investigation of the leak of CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity this week. It is expected that I. “Scooter” Libby or Karl Rove may be indicted. There is also speculation that Fitzgerald was also looking into whether Vice-President Dick Cheney was involved in the smear campaign that led to the leak.
What are the ramifications if either or both of these gentlemen are indicted? Does it make a difference if they are indicted of a wrongdoing committed because of the investigation, like a cover-up or obstruction, as opposed to the original reason for the investigation? Despite the President’s waffling over whether they should be fired or “dealt with,” should they be fired or step down?
I think the biggest question of all is how much of the rationale for the war in Iraq should be re-evaluated. Are investigations called for concerning that? What would be the use?
