Many Democrats and moderate Republicans take issue with the efforts of more extreme Republicans in their efforts to cut important government programs. Sixteen congressional committees lookd into several programs on Tuesday for cuts. Let’s take a look at which ones.
1. Federal aid to state child-support enforcement programs - Children well below the poverty would be forced to pay drug and emergency-room co-payments.
2. Federal payment to some foster care families - Payments to children taken out of the homes of impoverished grandparents or others not their parents would cease.
3. Welfare payments to the disabled
4. Medicaid prescription drug payments
5. Some Veteran’s benefits
and
6. A 5 percent across the board cut on discretionary spending, except for defense and Homeland security.
