The Virginia Democratic victory may be a sign of a backlash against the President as Virginia is a strongly Republican state. Bush even stumped for Kilgore during the campaign.

His challenger, Freman Hendrix (right), held only a slight lead over the incumbent last night. However, Kilpatrick came through in the end. He was considered one of the nation’s worst mayors earlier this year by Newsweek magazine. Hendrix campaigned on restoring dignity to the office of Mayor.
