Black Man Marches For The Confederacy

H.K. Edgerton is his name. Try to resist the temptation to strike him if you meet him. Edgerton is marching along with a South Carolina girl, Candice Hardwick, who is protesting her school’s refusal to allow her to wear Confederate garb. Edgerton says that he admires her stand for “her Southland.” Whatever that means. Edgerton is a former NAACP leader in North Carolina and says he wants to emphasize the role played by those blacks who voluntarily supported the South during the Civil War.

This man is in The State Of . . . Delusion. Sure there are things about the antebellum South that are charming but most of them have roots in segregation, oppression, and slavery. For a black man to march in support of the Confederacy one hundred and forty years late is like a Jewish person marching in support of Neo Nazis. There are obviously issues of self-hate involved with this man.
