Lonely Children and the Influence of Music

A study by the Rand Corp found that children and teens who listen to rauncy music have sex soon than those that don’t. Surprise, surprise. My (Justin) view is that so many of these children are desparately lonely, which makes them particularly vulnerable.

“Songs depicting men as “sex-driven studs,” women as sex objects and with explicit references to sex acts are more likely to trigger early sexual behavior than those where sexual references are more veiled and relationships appear more committed…”

There are millions of children in America, and indeed the world over, that live in extreme isolation. Many black children, usually the progeny of single parents, live in small apartments with almost no contact with the outside world, save a few hours at school or day care. A female friend of mine recently told me that she spent nearly her entire childhood listening to music because she was incredibly lonely. This girl can name the title and singer of nearly any song that comes on the radio, even the most obscure ballads. So it got me to thinking about all of the black kids with single moms that must be listening to the filfth pumping continuously from “urban radio.” (”Urban” means non-black-owned.) These kids are spending the first 18 years of their lives absorbing the hateful, spiteful jealousies of some of the most depraved artists this world has ever known. When we consider hip hop, we can’t look at it through our own eyes, but rather than eyes of the lonley children sitting at home with nothing to do but tune on the radio.
