Will Black Kids Buy $15 Basketball Sneakers?

Debbie Norwood got in line at dawn to buy the new Stephon Marbury sneakers for her son — eight pairs of them. And they still cost less than one pair of Michael Jordan Nikes.

“In the high-priced world of the NBA and the sneaker giants that enable it, the price of Marbury’s new shoe, the “Starbury One,” is a revolution: $14.98.

“The shoes, which come in an array of colors and styles, look (to my untrained eye) like any other sneaker you’d find on Foot Locker’s rack. Maybe they’re a bit heavy, maybe they don’t have the pump on the tongue or the hyperactive gel in the sole, but that stuff never made me good at basketball.”

TheStateOf . . . High-priced athletic shoes. I (Justin) wonder if kids will buy these?
