It’s over for “The Boondocks” comic strip, at least for now. After six years — a remarkably short run for a strip that found its way into 300-plus newspapers, including The Washington Post — Universal Press Syndicate told subscribers yesterday they should start looking for someone to replace political/social satirist Aaron McGruder.
The State Of . . . Aaron McGruder. I’ve always heard that this guy was a little off. My sister, the good doctor, told me that they got this guy to speak at U of I a few years back and he was incomprehensible. He was also known to smoke the Mary Jane. He later would give speeches lambasting Condi Rice in that Kanye West type way. My point is that the boy is a little unstable. I enjoyed the strip and I enjoy the cartoon as well. I would find it really ironic if McGruder gives up the strip for the Hollywood, or TV, buck. It would be like people he criticizes in his strip who sells out for the dollar. Could he become that which he despises?
