I (J) turned on the radio this morning and listened to a church service going on at one of the local black churches. A woman was singing about Jesus and the “great city of Jerusalem.” She went on and on about how she “loves Jesus” and wants to “see Jerusalem” upon her death. What the hell does that mean?
In many ways, one could say the African American church, or, black American Christianity, is illegitimate. Why do black people worship their slavemasters’ religion? How can blacks truly call themselves “Christians” when it was a religion foisted upon us at the tip of a whip? How can blacks succeed when we are trapped worshipping a religion we were forcefully converted to?
I don’t get it, and nobody has ever explained it to me in a satisfactory manner.
