"Honey, You Know Boys Don’t Kiss Boys, Right?"

True story. We report. You decide.

Yesterday, a friend of mine, Cindy, a single Mom told me an interesting story that I think reflects TheStateOf thinking in America. Cindy has a son, John, who is 8 years old. He is precocious, sharp and mature. Cindy’s friend Shannon was over her house the other day and was watching TV with John in the living room while Cindy made dinner in the kitchen. Shannon turned on “Will & Grace” and allowed John to watch the show. At some point during the episode, two men kissed.

Cindy heard John yell, “Eeewww!! Yuck!!” So when Cindy came into the living room to see what was wrong, John told her that “two men were kissing on the television.” Cindy got mad at Shannon for allowing John to watch a show with men kissing. Then Cindy turned to John and said, “Honey, you know boys don’t kiss boys, right?” John said “yes.” Well, then Shannon gets mad at Cindy, calling her a “bigot” for teaching John that “boys don’t kiss boys.” Cindy storms out of the house and they don’t speak for weeks.

TheStateOf . . . Us. Is Cindy a bigot? Or do TV programmes today that would have been considered obscene just 20 years ago present outrageous and shocking behavior as if it were normal? Does this condition us to accept depravity as the new societal norm?

And if that wasn’t enough, “Men who live as women can now legally use women’s rest rooms in New York’s transit system under an unprecedented deal revealed yesterday. The line for the girls’ room just got longer.”
