American History Lacks Female Heroines

I (J) was thinking the other day about why we’ve never had a female President here in the United States. Other countries, like the UK, India and Germany have had female heads-of-state. So why not here?

One theory I came up with is that there are not many respected women that achieved “glory” in American history (mostly because of the patriarchal American system). There is no Joan D’Arc or Eva Peron or Nefertiti. Women receive almost no mention in the history of the Revolutionary War, and, short of Harriet Tubman, I can’t think of any notable American woman pre-1900. The 20th century saw women like Susan B. Anthony achieve notable status, but her crusade was against male patriarchy, and not a campaign against a foreign oppressor or some other easily demonized force.
