Ignorance Abounds in Tennessee

It took, and is taking, the South some time to adjust to integration. Imagine how some Southern communities feel about illegal immigrants. Thanks to E Jones up in Michigan, We’ll share with you some snippets of how some Tennesseans feel about it.

According to the African-American minister pictured above: “They made Kunta Kinte say ‘Toby,’ ” he shouted to the assembled protesters, referring to the movie Roots. Rev Graham’s voice grew to a shout as the diminutive crowd cheered. “If it’s good enough for Toby, it’s good enough for me,” he said of the English language.

A social studies teacher’s comments on what should be in the library: “There shouldn’t be any Spanish-language books in this li-bary,” Minor said. “I would like to see a policy that if somebody is going to donate a book to this li-bary, where English has been the dominant language since 1836, let’s make those books be donated in English only.”

His diatribe lasted for perhaps two minutes, punctuated by the frequent refrain, “There shouldn’t be no books in here that I can’t read.”

According to one just plain ol’ ignorant person: “A legal immigrant from the Third World is just an illegal immigrant with a green card,” he says.

The State Of . . . the South.
How far has it come exactly. If you have the time to be amazed at the things people say, go the article yourself. I don’t really quite know what to make of what the African-American minister said. Can anyone help me with that?
