World Net Daily published an article entitled “Soy Is Making Kids Gay.” (I reluctantly attach a link to the article in the title.) My first encounter with Word Net Daily came from a link sent by a very conservative colleague of mine in Philadelphia a few years ago. Since then, I have seen little to show that this “news” source is nothing but right wing conservative propaganda. Focus on the Family, The Family Research Council, and the American Family Association are the zealots behind these Soy “studies.” For those of you who have read the article and somehow believe that it has objective veracity, ask yourself if these are the people you wish to be aligned with. (Offered today on World Net Daily are bumper stickers letting people know on what side of the war on Christmas you stand. Truly pressing stuff.) If you like, read the article. What medical sources does the author cite? Can you follow up on these sources? Is his evidence anecdotal?
The State Of . . . hysteria. Be above it. Don’t get caught up. When you receive such emails dig a little deeper and find out the source. If you think the World Net Daily is a reliable source for scientific findings, the you probably should believe that feeding your kid Soy milk will turn them gay.
