Here’s the situation: you, your girl (or ladies, your man) and a relatively new friend are having a tense debate on some important subject. Say your girl begins agreeing with your new friend, who’s making a point directly contradictory to your own. How do you feel? Should a woman (and a man) view such conversations as a team, or are we all free agents? I feel an underyling loyalty should prevent each member of a couple from publicly taking sides with a competitor unless the competitor is a particularly close friend. But on the other hand, in this age where relationships have no rules, maybe my feelings belong in a bygone era. To gain some clarity on the issue, I pose the following question: Should a man or woman express their personal opinions without regard to whether the opinion’s expression weakens the social standing of their partner?
