Black Woman’s Guide to Black Man’s Health

Posted on July 6, 2007 by thestateofblog
The book examines how black women can help men lead healthy lifestyles without neglecting their own health.

The book stresses that cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other conditions that occur in high rates among blacks should be taken seriously. Black women often make the health care decisions for their families, and the information in the book will help ensure that their husbands and children are well taken care of, she said. The book also addresses the importance of routine physician visits and mental health care.

Each chapter offers:
• A personal narrative from a woman (celebrity or non-celebrity) on her experience with that health issue
• Important facts about the disease as it affects the black community
• A discussion of available treatment options
• Advice on preventative steps women can take to combat risk of illness in their loved ones
• Resources where women can find more information and support on that issue
• A Q&A section with physician who specializes on the topic of discussion

The State Of . . . Our health and our families. So often it flows from our women because we men can be some bone headed. I (rich) heard about this book the other day and thought I’d tell you about it. The book is by Andrea King Collier and Willarda V. Edwards.
