True story: late one night about 10 years ago, me (J) and my big brother Colonized Mind were walking in a rough neighborhood of a foreign land called Brooklyn, NY. When we turned a corner, we saw about 10 rough-neck lookin’ brothas hanging out at a bus stop. They were blocking the sidewalk and, thus, our path. Shit looked sticky. As we approached, I kept my eyes glued to the sidewalk. I was scared. Colonized saw me and said, “Head up J!” I raised my head. We walked through the brothas, looking most of them square in the eye with a firm, “What’s up fellas?” - and we went on our way with no problems.
The moral of the story: Always keep your head up. Don’t you ever be afraid to look someone in the eye.
“Big Ups” to my big bro Colonized Mind.
