Tyson Honored in South Africa?

Mike Tyson was to be “honored” at a charity fund raising banquet in South Africa. He was there to auction off some of his memorabilia for the benefit of children’s organization. The keynote speaker was to be ANC leader Jacob Zuma. But Zuma backed out because of protest from several women’s groups opposed to rape. The irony:

In a country with one of the highest rates of rape, Zuma was found not guilty of raping a family friend two years ago. Tyson served a three-year sentence for the 1991 rape of an 18-year-old beauty queen in Indiana.

The State Of . . . South Africa. Are they that hard up to find a guest that they have to get Mike Tyson? But putting that aside, he was auctioning off his memorabilia for a good cause. This could be a sign of Mike turning things around. Or maybe he’s just hard up for cash. At any rate, it’s certainly better for him to auction it off for charity than for hookers and booze.
