Obama Open To Private School Vouchers

Senator Obama said this week that he is open to supporting private school vouchers if research shows they work.

“I will not allow my predispositions to stand in the way of making sure that our kids can learn,” Mr. Obama, who has previously said he opposes vouchers, said in a meeting with the editorial board of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “We’re losing several generations of kids, and something has to be done.”

“Education analysts said Mr. Obama’s statement is the closest they have ever seen a Democratic presidential candidate come to embracing the idea of vouchers. Vouchers are taxpayer-funded scholarships that allow families to opt out of public school and use their government-allotted education dollars to attend a private school instead. They are despised by teachers unions, powerful players in Democratic politics.

Here is the Wikipedia entry on vouchers.

TheStateOf . . . School Vouchers. I’m (J) torn on the issue of vouchers. If you don’t send your kids to public school, should you have to pay that portion of your property taxes relating to schools? And if your local public school sucks, shouldn’t you be able to take that tax money elsewhere? Whatever the case may be, the primary problem in American schools is not money; it’s lack of family re-enforcement of study habits and the mass-movement of intelligent women into the businessworld.

  1. Vouchers are a great Idea. Students in America can take their public money to Religious or Priviate schools in Colledge now. If I recieve a Pell grant I can attend a Religious colledge now. Why should not parents have the choice to send their kids with the money the state gives them to the elementary and high schools of their choice.

African American kids now attend the worst schools in the country. They deserve a choice. Additionally the Priviate schools need to be intergrated.

    What!?!?

What is wrong with encouraging intelligent women to go into the business world? What are you really trying to say? That women should not seek a career if they chose to?

I really don’t like discussing statements that are made only to encourage a knee-jerk reaction.

Please stop insulting my intelligence and say what you mean.

Don’t say stupid statements just to get people to respond. Someone may actually believe that you mean them.
