James Brown R. (not) I. P.

James Brown does not have a headstone. In fact, he is not even buried. His body rests in the front yard of one of his many daughters. He’s not buried and his estate is in turmoil because his kids are trifling. Yes he had a will. But some of the kids are contesting it because they are not named. There’s also the the latest “wife” whom he “married” before she was officially divorced from some Pakistani man. There is about $20 million that was to be left for the education of his grandkids and “needy” youths in Georgia and South Carolina.

GQ a pretty good article detailing the whole sorted affair. One interesting point about Mr. Brown and one big life lesson.

Interesting point: Mr. Brown fucked. “He did not know about the soft,” a longtime friend says. A lot of times, he’d let one of his cronies deal with the preliminaries, make small talk with a girl, get her a drink, keep her company. “She ready?” he’d ask. “I ain’t got no time now. Make sure she ready.” . . . Hell, the man was in his sixties before he discovered doggy style on the Playboy Channel. He called up Roosevelt Johnson at three in the morning to tell him about it. “You sittin’ down, Mr. Johnson?” he asked, which is what he always said when he had an astonishing new fact to report. “Black man don’t know nothing. Black man don’t know a damned thing. A white man, he get up in his woman from behind.

The State of . . . Mr. Brown’s estate is the big life lesson. You can die at anytime. GET A WILL. And make sure your kids get along.

  1. Most artistic people are extremely trifling. They don’t look at the world and see disorder - they just see life.

  2. Interesting story of a complex man.

  3. It’s sad that he left such a mess. Knowing that l won’t have to fight any siblings when my mom passes is one of the few positives of being an only( her only).

  4. I cant get past that last paragraph. What does one say after that.

  5. Whoa whoa…

    why was “needy” in quotes?

What exactly is being inferred by that?

  6. TG, I guess there were no specific guidelines as to what constitutes one being ‘needy’.

  7. He was a typical African. I hope this was all resolved in the traditional peaceful way…shame so much money changes peopple…yes.
