“It seemed for a while as if R. Kelly’s day in court might never come. But after six years of repeated delays, jury selection is set to begin Friday in the Grammy-winning R&B singer’s trial on child pornography charges, prompted by a videotape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a girl as young as 13.

J is correct that he will walk because the female is about 20 now and if she testifies it is going to be difficult for the jury to see her as an innocent child

Apparently the prosecutors have another witness that had a three -some with the pied piper and the youngin’. She is willing to identify the girl in the video and testify about her age.
I agree with J and Pres.
The girl was an experienced willing participant despite her age. On this one Kelly gets a pass. Although he clearly has a problem. cough Aaliyah cough.
Oh, and DV, I’d have beat her ass worse than I’d have beat that little 7 year old who stole his family car in Florida.
One last thing, why cant prosecutors ever seem to get there shit together when it comes to celebrity trials? They only seem to be able to win the little ones. The big ones tend to be royally screwed up. Why?

You’ll have to be kidding me…..what in the world does the fact that she was a “willing” participative have to do with the crime that was committed? So If a child enjoys being abused it’s fair game…huh?

I have a 14 year old client in jail right now for sticking his finger inside a 6 year old girl. He says she asked him to do it. So i guess if the consensus is that as long as the girl says its okay, there’s no culpability? Am I hearing you all correctly?
Willingness is HARDLY the issue. Of course 13 and 14 year olds are willing. Their hormones are raging, they are in the throes of puberty. They are horny and will hump the couch if need be. a 30+ year old person should NOT be taking advantage of that. A 35 year old woman should not be screwing a 14 year old boy no matter what his body may look like. R Kelly should not be bonin’ 13 year old girls even if she looks like a 25 year old stripper because the bottom line is SHE AIN’T.

Like I said, I’m not condoning what he did. But I really don’t see how you can throw a dude in jail when a 16 year old willingly pursues him for sex. There’s simply no “victim.”

Why do we determine certain behaviors are “crimes” and other behaviors are “people’s rights” or “not our business” or “bedroom privacy issues”?
We agree certain behavior is “a crime” in order to deter it.
Putting R. Kelly in front of a firing squad would not deter young men and fast huzzy hot ass girls from having sex.
Put video camera’s in every bedroom in America tonight, and tomorrow the courts would be jam packed with equally egregious “crimes”.
If we really cared about young girls having sex too young, we would teach them, motivate them and inspire them to preserve their sexuality until later in life - instead of chanting to crucify the men with whom they have sex now.
No, we don’t inspire them. We do not paint pictures of the virtues of sexual restraint. We give them condoms, birth control pills and subtly discourage marriage.
What does society expect? Jailing nasty ass R. Kelly would be hypocrisy.

I would be willing to bet plenty of money that DV’s daughter would never be in that position. Child abuse is commonly repeated generation after generation. I doubt R. Kelly was the first to abuse her……and she’s obviously quite comfortable in the abuse and may even enjoy it…..who knows? All I know is she was a YOUNG teenager so she doesn’t know much. None of us know this girl’s story, but from what i hear of her ‘performance’ there’s no other explanation.

Oh give me a break DV! What about if some sick man takes and exploits the sexuality she’s supposed to be preserving? This girl was apparently the niece of one of R Kelly’s female friends which means he may have been on the scene for quite some time. None of us know how long he was in this child’s life ‘training’ her for their on-screen debut!
I’m surprised one of the lawyers didn’t see it that way, instead of pointing the finger at the child.
I’m not making excuses for any ‘hot ass’ little teenage girls or loose women, but many of them did not simply wake up one day and decide to live a sexually immoral lifestyle.
I saw the tape. She was not runnig away. I’d beat her azz if I were her father.
And Sasha, there’s a big difference between a six year old girl and a 14 year old girl….at least I think so. LOL.

R. Kelly clearly has a problem with going after vulnerable teens. He did it with Aaliyah and apparently others. But 30 year old men and 15 year old girls is commonplace all over the world. This is very common in France. Again, I think he’s wack, but not “criminal.”

I am not, by any means, condoning or excusing R. Kelly’s actions. I am simply saying that we should not, for the sake of political correctness, fool ourselves about that girl’s experience, willingness and intention. Just cuz she was 14, didnt mean she didnt know how to make it do what it do.

Paul, an accurate account of the girl and her “circumstances” has everything to do with the whole darn situation. Absolutely everything. As a woman, I appreciate your willingness to condemn Kelly. Its certainly nice to encounter men with scruples. But that girl no more needs you to front like she wasnt as fast-ass, than she needs a whole in her head. It is only when folks are presented with the real can they see the error in their ways. To put it another way, if somebody other than Kelly had been around to snatch that girl and tell her to “stop acting like a damn ho” she probably wouldnt have been on tape.
