“Shukura Sentwali is going home — to Ghana, West Africa.
“Sentwali, a Wichitan and longtime community activist, said she’s moving to Africa next year because two Ghanaian chiefs are offering free land to descendants of slaves.
“The gesture means to atone for Ghana’s participation in the African slave trade, but the land holds deeper meaning for Sentwali because it provides her a way to fulfill a lifelong mission to improve life for black people.
TheStateOf . . . Africa. A move back to Africa is definitely in the hopper for Ike & Sean’s Mama and me (J). At least a temporary move. I’d almost feel like my life was incomplete if I didn’t. Would you live in Africa?

Yup. Looking to move to Ghana within the next 5 to 10 years. Even if temporarily.
I would go right now if the free land comes with a nice house and a decent job.

It’s not likely. Although I will be heading over to South Africa for my first trip to the continent in June. Who knows . . . I may be moved.
To visit? Yes.
To live? No.
If someone wanted to take them up on the offer, how would they go about it?
All I can say… after volunteering over there is the hospitals are off the chain. I’d have to get my FULL McGyver on to do half of what I do here. Crazy. I give props to the folks that try hard over there. There are also many that don’t (same as here I guess.)

Just use google and do some research. I think the program is mainly tribal, but the gov’t has to approve. I have a number of friends who live in Ghana and they are doing GREAT. But you don’t want to be an employee over there; start your own thing. I have a friend who was making $550K/yr trading rice. I dunno if he still is doing as well.

Don’t be so close-minded. Have you ever been to Africa? It’s hardly “third world,” whatever that means. Man, negros sure have been programmed - even the “smart, educated” ones.

For the record, I also have no desire to live in England, Japan, Iraq, Australia or Cuba. Hell, I dont want to live in Montana, West Virgina, Alaska or Utah. Is that further evidence of my “closed mindedness” and “programming?”

I would love to do it! I would like to live there half of the year toward my golden years. I believe they offer dual citizenship.

I like quality healthcare. It’s a big issue for me. A move to a country with socialized healthcare is certainly attractive. (Sure, I’ve been “programmed” by Michael Moore.)

I would like to visit both countries ( although I have heard that Spain is really racist) but l would not live in either country.

Many that I see that are really ready to move to Africa seem all too eager to validate a sense of blackness that they long to have. They wish to go.. then come back and tell everyone else how black they are.
I’m good with visiting again.. doing work again. That’s about it though.
How do you say ‘back’ and YOU have never been? I can’t claim every place my dad has been. Get real.

There is some ‘truth’ to what you say. Most of my friends that moved ‘back’ to africa are the bitter anti-whitey types. That’s not me. But I do feel a sense of being ‘home’ when I am there…
I guess to each their own.
I lived for 16 years in the US, couldn’t take it anymore and moved back to Ghana.
Best thing I ever did! Ghana may not have all the so called benefits that the US has, but I did find that despite the ” benefits” a lot of my friends in the US were usually just 2 or 3 paychecks away from poverty
For people with a pioneering spirit, Africa, Ghana and some other African countries are the best.
One can liken this place to an unfinnished painting……. there are so many opportunities in every sense of the word. In Africa, the sky is the limit, especially for those who have skills and knowledge.
Yes we have problems, like very other country, but to me, there is no other place like mother Africa. …. and for the die hard bloggers, we have internet access too
