Quote of the Day

We’re the most captive nation of slaves that ever came along.  The moral timidity of the average American is quite noticeable.  Everybody’s afraid to be thought in any way different from everyone else.

  1. Mr. Vidal has clearly never read TSO.

  2. when I saw that there had been a comment I was sure Dina had made it. I guess she is busy feeding mini-me.

As for the post Vidal is on point. People can criticize the hippies if they want but at least they had the balls to take to the streets and weren’t afraid of being unpopular as we are today.

  3. Or maybe it’s not that people are afraid of being unpopular - it could be that they 1) are concerned with being misunderstood or taken out of context or 2) believe that no one cares to hear their thoughts - unless, of course, it is a forum like this…

  4. I completely agree…this is probably because of the rise in “political correctness,” which has created a trend where people are generally afraid to say anything remotely controversial.

  5. Gore Vidal is one of my favorite commentators.

Political correctness is a semi-communist, IMO. It stifles debate, marginalizes people with non-mainstream opinions and increases dependence on the government.

It’s not just “liberal” opinions that are excoriated, but “conservative” opinions as well. Look how you guys tried to rip me on the gay post earlier this week!

  6. You can say it J. Political correctness IS communist. It is one of the most obnoxious bits of social engineering the elites have sold to the guillible American people.

People can’t have conversations anymore without worrying about offending others over whatever. And the people who are “offended” get special self-righteous status and demand apologies for the “hurt” they suffered. It creates perpetual classes of victims just looking for justification of their victimhood in anything another says.

So people don’t bother to speak to people who are different from themselves or they have such shallow conversations about who got booted from American Idol, that you can never get to know them. Great, I know who you voted for on American Idol, but you don’t want to talk politics. And then we wonder why Americans become stupid. No chance to learn from each other. Political correctness creates unnecessary boundaries between the races, genders, religions, etc.

Watch next time a White person is speaking to you, struggling to watch every little word coming out of his mouth to make sure you’re not offended. In his head, “should I call them Black or African-American”? When a male co-worker speaks to a female and steers the conversation conspicuously away from any topic related to males and females. If people are always worrying about your pathetic, child-like fragility, they won’t want to deal with you.

Then women and ethnics cry because no one wants to mentor them at the firm. Let me get that box of Kleenex you pulled out the other day J.

It is a self-imposed tool of segregation. Spent years fighting against Jim Crow and we reinstitute in our cultural relations.

  7. Excellent points Dina.

A few hours ago I was in the restroom and a white lady commented on how good the colors I’m wearing looked on me, I said thank you and she goes on to say “The beige, orange and brown look really good against your…I’m just so pale those would never look good on me.” I was like why couldn’t she have finished the thought and said skin color…or tone…I thought that was really funny.

  8. Big J:Look how you guys tried to rip me on the gay post earlier this week!

What type of cheese do you want with that whine?

  9. I was Anonymous above.

  10. IMS,

That’s a great story and illustrates precisely how p.c. nonsense drives a wedge between people.

And there could be a man at work (I’m assuming you’re a woman :-)) who wants to compliment you and tell you how nice you look in that top, but can’t because he’ll be accused of sexual harassment.

  11. That’s the nature of mankind itself, but especially pronounced in this here country.

  12. Dina: And there could be a man at work (I’m assuming you’re a woman :-)) who wants to compliment you and tell you how nice you look in that top, but can’t because he’ll be accused of sexual harassment

No man should be telling his coworker how nice she looks in an outfit unless he is one of the girls or he is doing her. LOL

Yep, and as a female engineer I notice the PCness on both sides.
