“As summer vacation begins, 17 girls at Gloucester High School are expecting babies—more than four times the number of pregnancies the 1,200-student school had last year. Some adults dismissed the statistic as a blip. Others blamed hit movies like Juno and Knocked Up for glamorizing young unwed mothers. But principal Joseph Sullivan knows at least part of the reason there’s been such a spike in teen pregnancies in this Massachusetts fishing town. School officials started looking into the matter as early as October after an unusual number of girls began filing into the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, “some girls seemed more upset when they weren’t pregnant than when they were,” Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. Then the story got worse. “We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy,” the principal says, shaking his head.”

Good morning..
Of course, this story’s been spun.
At any rate, this statement..
“They’re so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally,” …is real talk.
Definitely about family. I’ve seen this often dealing with young people and adults… Human being only really want two things.. 1 To love; 2. To be loved.
But this story’s too wild and ridiculous for me.
I am sure there are those on here who will cheer the teens for getting pregnant while their eggs are ripe.
You know ’cause their grandmas had kids when they were teenagers. LOL
Rod you beat me to it. LOL.
Lets see if the resident peanut gallery will appluad these girls for “following their natural instincts” or will they call for the ass whippin that every last girl and their parents deserve!
How many o f those girls had active fathers? And a Massachusetts fishing town? Are these primarily white kids we’re talking about?
Obviously, these girls aren’t making smart decisions. They must come from some truly love-less households.
Rod and RJ,
Y’all are startin’ to get defensive, huh?
Nobody thinks this is a good idea. But it least it proves one thing - that women really, really, really want to have babies. I know a bunch of corporate 40-year old women with fancy college degrees that ain’t got ish - no hubbie, no kids. Who would you rather be?
My sister was the pregnant teen.
I’m the 40s woman with no hubbie and no kids.
This one is easy — I would MUCH rather be me. I feel rich.
And yes, J, maybe some women are very driven to “have” babies. Doesn’t mean they are capable of “raising” a human being.
But we’re missing the point … let’s talk about who really matters — the kid.
I would rather be born to the 40-year-old woman with a degree — or not at all! — than to some 17-year-old with no skills and no prospects and, most likely, no husband.
Ah, I see I drew Lurky Lulu out of her hole….thanks for posting!! Don’t make it a one-time deal.
For real, for many women these days, getting pregnant accidentally is going to be the only way they ever have a baby. Straight up. With so many brothers in jail, gay or otherwise incapable of bonding with women, it’s not a bad idea to hook up early - and I mean REALLY early. IMO, a woman shouldn’t be single past age 25.
But these chicks at this high school obviously have other things going on. Getting prego by a 25 year old homeless guy is not a good look.
As for your example, I’d take the 40-year old mama too! No doubt.
Big J: IMO, a woman shouldn’t be single past age 25.
Dude…you are hilarious.
Two sides of the same coin.
Teens making pacts and 40-year-old women mothering cats in front of the tv, watching Sex And The City.
Both are great examples of the extremes that are created when women are taught “I don’t need a man to be happy”. You get single, teen mothers and single, manless, old women. Both a reflection of the inability to bond with members of the opposite sex.
Same result: No families and/or weak families.
Dina’s out for blood.
when isn’t she, Wayne? LOL
“when isn’t she, Wayne? LOL
Roderick
When haven’t you learned something?
Now they’re saying that there was no pact; the girls just bonded after learning they were all prego.
Denmark Vesey: When haven’t you learned something?
Nah, I am waiting on you to teach ignorant me, Mr. Know Every Damn Thing.
I’m like Lurky Lulu. My sister was the pregnant teen, and I’m the 40+ with no husband, kids or prospects (I live in a county with fewer than 2% AfAms and I don’t feel comfortable doing the “Something New” thing).
I’m not a mother for several reasons. I’m a professional, but not a high-income one and you need six figures to live decently in SoCal. I’m a native SoCal and don’t want to leave again.
But at core, I had a Daddy and don’t want to deprive my child of one. My folks, had my Dad lived, would be married 60 years come December. Things were obviously much different when my folks married in 1948.
It may be naive, but I’m so glad that I was born into an intact family.
- THIS IS FOR EVERY ONE -
I am 17 and a mother of a 5 month old baby boy. I am a GREAT mother to my son! i might not have the worlds best job or a colledge degree but i get paid…And my father was around!!! he is a great dad. So to people who think all these teen pregnancys are being caused because of broken homes you couldnt be more WRONG. i live in AZ and i know so many girls that have kids or are pregnant and some have perfect lives, a monther/ father, a nice home with everything they want, and were popular at school. just for the record they are great mothers and NO they dont all know eachother.
but the point is just because a teen has a baby doesnt mean she will be a bad parent, it makes our lives harder but shit whos life isnt hard, seriously.
having a baby is something only a woman that has went through the ups and downs of having a baby can truly say anything to. how the fuck is a MAN going to go and say anything about young woman having babys??
men dont have any responcibility as it is. OH and how is an 40-YR OLD WOMAN that has NO husband or children even qualified to have an opinon???!!! why dont you go and have a baby then come back online and try saying the same thing.but if the girls made a pact to have babies together then hopefully the ALL stick with it. SO TWO SIDES OF THE COIN MY ASS
SO EITHER YOUR A GOOD PARENT OR YOUR NOT!!!
